John 10:11-18 The Good Shepherd and Hearing His Voice

 John 10:11-18 Taking time to hear God's voice does not come naturally in this day and age. We constantly move from task to task, completing checkboxes and to-do lists. When I do encounter time to breathe, often which comes unscheduled, it shocks my system and I have fear of missing out, taking advantage of the rare moments of free time. I feel disheartened, disappointed when I end up alone. I must remind myself that God is waiting for me, particularly in those moments. The silence seems foreign, but it is this opportunity to come closer to my creator, in prayer and revelation.  In this generation, I am so quickly distracted by worldly anxiety. When in times of distress, I must rapidly reorient myself to physically getting away from triggers. Contemplative / Domestic Church - Mark 3:20–35

Sometimes I think it would've been so much easier if God had just called me to be a nun. At home, the responsibilities never stop. Someone always needs something, and the to-do list is endless. I catch myself daydreaming about a quiet life focused entirely on prayer, cut off from these daily stressors. But then I remember Saints Thérèse of Lisieux and Faustina. Reading Story of a Soul and Divine Mercy in My Soul , it's obvious their cloistered lives were incredibly hard. It was just the specific path the Father willed for them. My path was the standard script: college, medical school, marriage, and four kids. I truly believed God was dropping hints along the way through timely acceptances and academic milestones. But the memory that really haunts me is 9/11. I was seventeen, just three blocks north of the Twin Towers. I still ask, Why am I here when so many others aren't?
